Patricia Smith Story Selected for “Best American Mysteries” Anthology

I am so proud that “When they are Done With Us,” a short story by my wife, staten island noirPatricia Smith, is one of 20 selected for inclusion in the 2013 edition of Best American Mysteries.

The story first appeared in last year’s Staten Island Noir anthology, which Patricia also edited. The great Otto Penzler, editor of Best American Mysteries, calls the story “a distinguished piece of fiction.”

Amazingly, it is the first short story ever written by Patricia, who is best known for her brilliant poetry. Her story is also receiving the Robert L. Fish Memorial Award at the Mystery Writers of America’s Edgar Awards ceremony in April.

I also have a story in Staten Island Noir, which can be purchased here. Other works by Patricia, whose honors include being a National Book Award finalist, can be purchased here.
